constraints in joint model

Hello, We're trying to run a joint model with two response variables. For one response, we need to fix some of the covariances between level 2 random effects to zero. In mlwin, this model runs fine and everything looks nice. In runmlwin, I can't get it to set the covariances to zero. I tried the sam...

MLwiN on Unix?

I am working on some genetic studies, where we are looking at the effects of each of 2.5 million genetic markers on multilevel models. I usually run my multilevel models on MLwiN or using runmlwin. But because of the number of models we run in these genetic studies, they have to be run on the high p...

Re: Log likelihood and deviance not displayed

Fantastic, thanks. Have just emailed you a dataset and model code
best wishes,

Re: Log likelihood and deviance not displayed

Hi George,

Just checked in mlwin and it says it can't calculate the likelihood there, so it must be a problem with the model. I guess we all just need to check the runmlwin model output carefully to check this, as it would be easy to miss if the coefficients/SEs look reasonable!

Thanks,
Laura

Log likelihood and deviance not displayed

Hello, I've had a couple of models today that appear to run, no error messages and sensible numbers in the output, but no Log Likelihood or Deviance is displayed in the output. Example below: Run time (seconds) = 3.67 Number of iterations = 8 Log likelihood = . Deviance = . If I tweak a few things i...

Stata MP vs Stata IC

Hi, A model I am trying to run on my PC will not run on Kate T's PC. The syntax we are trying to run is: runmlwin pesokg cons s3_3_12_36_03 s3_3_12_36_3_12 s3_3_12_36_12_36 s3_3_12_36_36_max /// male males3_3_12_36_03 males3_3_12_36_3_12 males3_3_12_36_12_36 males3_3_12_36_36_max, /// level2(id: con...

Re: Error message: invalid variable names

Thanks for these replies. We have a variable named pi, so that must have been the problem. We will rename it! Oddly, the error message comes up on my colleague's laptop, but not on my networked University of Bristol PC. So same data, same do file, runs fine on one but not the other. Something to do ...

Error message: invalid variable names

Hi, I'm getting the following message when I use runmlwin: "Some variables have names which are invalid in Stata, this may cause a problem when you load the data" You can then click ok and the model runs fine, but each models causes this message to flash up. The variable names were all gen...
