Easiest way to use mlwin via script

After some searches on the website, I saw that there are several ways to use a text-based command for MLWIN (e.g., via R or via macros). I was wondering whether you could advice me on the best way to do this in my situation. I have ran several quite heavy models in MLwin, using multiple membership m...

Re: Data set up Longitudinal Multiple Membership Model

The story continues... We have looked seriously into cross-classified models now, but still unsure what to do. What we have is the following: 5 timepoints nested in students nested in classrooms nested in schools Each timepoint is always nested within the same student. However, the students are not ...

Re: Data set up Longitudinal Multiple Membership Model

Hi george, If I may, an additional question about the multiple membership vs. closs-classificaiton issue. This is in the manual: In the last chapter we considered cross-classified models and introduced the concept of a classification. All the classifications we considered were what we would describe...

Re: Data set up Longitudinal Multiple Membership Model

Thanks, I have read those, but I find it hard to apply this knowledge to my model to be honest

Re: multinomial logistic regression - Error design vector length - no missings

Thanks, I will send you an email. I will post a solution here if it is found, in case someone else runs into the same problem.

Re: Data set up Longitudinal Multiple Membership Model

Hi George,

I think this is why we initially chose for a multilevel model with multiple membership, because it seemed like we could include all data that way (with weighing based on how many timepoint children were present). i might be totally off though...

Re: Data set up Longitudinal Multiple Membership Model

Thank you for your clear answer :-) I have another question if I may: In my dataset, we always measure grades 5-8 for certain schools, irrespective of what children are in those grades. The reason for that is that the data are collected as part of a randomized control trial for effectivity of an int...

Re: multinomial logistic regression - Error design vector length - no missings

Hi Chris, Thank you for your answer! I have tried all your suggestions, but unfortunately, no results. I have changed the reference category, the same problem occured. I deleted the " denom" variable, which I created for use in another model, just in case this was confusing to MLwin. The o...

multinomial logistic regression - Error design vector length - no missings

I am trying to run a model in which I predict an ordinal variable with 5 categories (% are 50.4%, 32.6%, 7.6%, 3.6% and 5.8%). THe first category is the reference categorie. My data are nested, with 9137 children nested in 460 classrooms in 153 schools. I followed the manual to set up a model with C...

Re: Data set up Longitudinal Multiple Membership Model

Hi George, Thank you for your response. You are right, every observation belongs to 1 child, and for that observation, the child belongs to 1 classroom and 1 school. For the next observation (i.e., 1 year later), the observation belongs to the same child, but that child may then be in a classroom th...
