Can someone tell me what the difference is between extra poisson and negative binomial? What is the difference between the assumptions and estimation techniques if I use the "extra" option under the nonlinear tab in MLwiN?

Also, do I not get a DIC with the extra poisson results but I get a DIC with the regular poisson results?
